It's hard to believe that I will be heading to Honduras again in less than two weeks. I am so excited to make year two of Honduras Bound a reality! We've expanded quite a bit this year from our little close-knit group of four students in 2007. This year we have eleven participants from two high schools, ranging from grades nine through twelve. Profé (Jessie McKenzie) and I have been getting all of the last minute details ready for our trip in the past couple of weeks. Passports are in, plane tickets have been purchased, homestays have been arranged, and the Honduras Bound students are itching for take off.
We do have a few fun events planned before we board that plane on June 5. In addition to fundraising enough money throughout the course of this year to completely cover the cost of their trip, participating students have been involved in a series of classes that I call Honduras 101. The curriculum is designed to help them prepare for everything from packing, to culture shock, and also to give them some background knowledge on the Honduras and Copan, the city we will be living. We only have two official student meetings left - a pancake breakfast here at my house next week and final pre-departure BBQ on June 3 (students - don't forget to bring your packed luggage to be checked!)
One of the students' responsibilities while in Honduras is to keep this blog updated. So expect to be entertained as they share their experiences with you. Think of them as your eyes and ears abroad. We also welcome you to share your thoughts with us by posting responses to our blogs. I know that our students will be thrilled to hear news from the States. Also, check out our website www.hondurasbound.org to learn more about our students and chaperones and our itinerary. We'll try to post photos throughout the trip as well. Check in again soon!
¡Adios!
